The woman ran swiftly, daring to glance back down the alley to see if the creature had pursued her. For the moment it appeared as if she was safe, she stopped to take a breath, leaning against a nearby wall, the cold stone sending shivers across her already trembling frame. Suddenly a hot pain sprouted in her chest, as she opened her eyes, the blood splattered form of the monstrosity that had been chasing her was revealed, slowly she slipped into darkness...cold.. dead... darkness.
Suddenly light flooded Lilith's eyes, a ringing her ears. She was alive, the pain gone. Drenched in cold sweat from head to toe, her blonde locks plastered to her back and chest. She looked around to find the source of the ringing only to realize it was her own screaming. Closing her mouth she let out an exasperated sigh.
"The same dream... For the last month the same dream... what does it all mean?!" she yelled to herself, grumpy and sleep depraved as she was. Falling back with a soft thud onto her bed she glared at the ceiling then turned and looked at the clock. One o' clock PM... "Crud!" She yelled, bolting up right and heading to the bathroom to clean herself up.
Hours later she came out, fully dressed, make up and hair done, she had been supposed to meet her boyfriend at the park at three o' clock, it was now three thirty. She ran down the stairs of her apartment building, shoes clicking annoyingly and boards groaning softly. She made it to her car and was at the park by four.
Stepping out of her little scion she glanced around, it was a cloudy day, rather dark for so early in the day. Striding to where she saw Vaughn her boyfriend, sitting on a bench, obviously waiting impatiently. He had glanced at his watch at least 3 times in the 5 minutes it took her to walk over to him. As she hugged him rather girlishly and giggled he almost seemed to growl.
"Late again I see." was all he said at first, and she stared at the strange expression he had on his face. Then he smiled and pulled her closer and she was reassured.
"Yes, I'm sorry. The Nightmare has been keeping me awake lately so I sleep later than usual when I can." She muttered, a bit embarrassed by the closeness.
"I understand. Lets go catch a movie, we can still see the last showing of The Wolfman." He told her.She simply gave a nod and they went. Around seven o' clock they came from the theater, it was now extremely dark despite the time.
"I should go home.. It looks like a bad storm." Lilith murmured, not sure why but the situation made her uncomfortable.
"No no, don't leave now. Come on, the nights still young. Let's go for a walk in the park." Vaughn coaxed at her. She soon complied and they were walking through the shadowed strangely silent and eerily empty park.
Lilith felt like the whole scene was familiar, but she couldn't fathom why. Though as they walked through the wooded park the clouds began to clear, the moon was now high in the sky, and full and bloody red. As the light hit him Vaughn's grip on her arm became painful, and she tried to pull away.
"Vaughn. Stop it! You're hurting me! It's late, just let me go home!" Once again Lilith had that sense of familiarity. As she turned to look at Vaughn she saw something that sent terror down her spine. The Nightmare. Wrenching her arm out of his grasp with adrenaline fueled strength she began to ran with all her might. Determined the escape the fate that her Nightmare had been foreboding.
As she ran out of the park she noticed how empty and quiet the city seemed to be, she felt utterly alone, alone in the dark with the beast from her bad dreams. Glancing back she saw him running after her, he was slow! Seeing an opportunity to escape she ran down an alley, turning into another, then another. She hoped that in the maze of alleyways the Nightmare couldn't find her..

Suddenly a hot pain sprouted in her chest. Just then she realized her mistake, she had not run from her end. She had run to it. Opening her eyes she saw the Nightmare that was Vaughn. And slipped into the Darkness she had feared so much. Death had taken her.

This was originally written for a contest for a "creepy" story, admittedly on gaia. It didn't win but eh, I thought I did pretty well.
