Bio:Tetsuhito Shin was born on an early morning the year of 1598. A few days after his birth his father, a lesser noble and samurai, joined the banner of Tokugawa Ieyasu and fought with him throughout the years. The war was long and hard-fought, but the fate of the country was decided at the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600. Following that battle, Ieyasu had vanquished all his enemies and became the most powerful man in Japan. The Tetsuhito family were richly rewarded for their service during the war and gained quite a lot of political power and wealth after this. His father was promoted to general and was one of the few the Shogun listened too.
At the age of 16, Shin had grown up to become a spoiled brat, socializing with the top nobility of the country. He was intelligent, impulsive and was always making jokes. He was well liked by those around him and soon fell in love with a girl called Yuki whom he started to give her a lot of his attention. She was annoyed at first but after some time it actually seemed to Shin as if she responded to his feelings. After a quick talk with his father about it, they were soon officially betrothed, Yuki having nothing to say in the matter. She was the silent kind of person who rarely said anything, but when she spoke she always spoke with a passion that moved your soul. Shin always thought she was the most beautiful when she shouted at him. Of course he shouted back, since he was a child still.
What he did not like was that the Shogun’s youngest son seemed to take interest in her as well. While she always denied any offers given to her, Shin grew more and more suspicious. Soon he started to hear unearthly screams when he slept and sometimes even at full daylight! Once, he saw a monstrous being watching him intently but when he told his company about it, they would just laugh thinking that it was another joke of his. But even if it had been an illusion, his hands wouldn’t stop trembling with fear.
His worst suspicions seemed to be confirmed the day he was sent to quell a rebellion in the northern reaches of the country. He was given command of the troops in the frontline, where the chance of dying was at the highest. But he fought hard, never giving up and seemed to survive somehow. When he was finally allowed to return home, he was ambushed on the road back. His companions were slain but Shin himself threw himself off a cliff in order to escape his pursuers. They safely assumed he was dead and looked forward to the award they would get for having killed the bothersome fiancée.
But they were very, very wrong. While he not only managed to survive, he made his way all back to Edo. His clothes were reduced to rags and his sanity had been plunged into a black hole of hatred and despair. His eyes almost seemed to shine with a crazed light and half a year from his ambush he had made his way to the prince’s manor. During his time in the wilderness, he had been hunted by creatures out of his nightmares. Their eerie howls had echoed throughout the dark nights, he could never let up his guard in fear of being attacked. When in a dark forest he was driven into a dead-end, with no point but to fight. The hollow was one of the smaller kind but there was a pack of them.
Without any other choice but to fight all, Shin was determined to take as many of them with him as possible to the other side. Drawing his sword he charged the pack head on screaming from the top of his lungs. The Hollows were taken aback by the sudden charge and the first one was sliced in two pieces with apparent ease. But that woke them up and they began to elude him, striking at the open points in his defence while he desperately tried to strike them down. And so the battle raged back and forth, Shin slowly losing as the hollows could bring their greater numbers to bear.
Leaning against a rock wall Shin’s knees finally gave away. He had lost a lot of blood, his vision was blurry and his sword had finally snapped like a twig. Desperate ideas flowed through his mind as his very being was suddenly faced with the undeniable truth; he was finally going to die. Rage and hatred burned like the fires of hell and his jaws clenched when he thought about the one responsible for this. It was a flame that engulfed his very soul, scorching the sanity he had fought hard to retain. The hollows spread out and launched their attack. To Shin it all seemed to happen in slow motion. He could clearly see the raindrops on the leaves in the background, every branch on the tree and every puddle of mud on the ground. He felt a calm he had never felt before, knowing full well that this would be his last moment on earth. His gaze fell upon the full moon.
And then an image flashed through his mind. Long, blonde hair that seemed to glow like silver in the moonlight. The green eyes that seemed to read his every thought, a beautiful smile that was for him alone. Yuki. He could picture her standing at the gate of his home, desperately waiting for him to come home. Or maybe she was mourning his death. Yuki… the thought echoed in his mind. Maybe Tokugawa forced her into marriage, holding her family hostage if she does not comply. A new fire was lit, if pictured it would be blue and held a cold rage far more terrible than the feelings of berserk he had experienced a moment ago. The silence of the cold night was shattered by the howl of a wolf and with that time started running again.
The hollow closest to him simply disappeared in a roaring explosion. Then another one and yet another one was reduced to dust. The air around Shin’s body seemed to swirl, forming around him. They formed vague outlines, claws made out of air extending from where his fingers ended. Bringing up his hand he howled with fury and a surge of air shot forward and exploded the hollow on impact. When he finally came to his senses and looked around he had no clear memory of what had happened. All he knew for sure was that his sword was gone and that he had somehow sustained pretty bad wounds. When he turned around a black wolf as big as him studied him intently. The next moment it was gone.
Sneaking into the Tokugawa mansion didn’t prove to be that hard for Shin. He didn’t kill anybody, merely knocking them out and in that way acquiring a new sword for him. From what he had heard Yuki was residing somewhere in the mansion, under the young lords “protection”. Shin’s mind was filled with one thing, vengeance. Opening the door to the prince’s bedchamber, he saw the prince making love to some woman. Without thinking any further he smashed the door apart and launched toward the pair, plunging the sword into the back of Tokugawa. He removed the blade and stabbed him again and again and again. His face was consorted in a bestial grimace with his teeth bared and insanity in his eyes. He was soon covered in the lifeblood of his dead enemy and only then did he set his eyes on the woman he had killed at the same time.
He started to tremble, unable to say or do anything, frozen in fear. The only word that left his mouth was a moan holding so much pain that it was unbearable to hear. In return, Yuki just smiled at him, her eyes showing only an extraordinary calm. “I knew you were alive” she said, lifting a weak hand to lovingly stroke his cheek. Shin still couldn’t find any words, a single teardrop leaving his eyes. Her other hand grasped a dagger from Shin’s belt and cut a long streak on his forehead. “There…now I have marked you as mine” she said keeping his gaze locked on her “just like you have done to me.” were the last words she uttered in life. He could feel her body going limb as he held her close to him. He stared in amazement as he then saw her standing next to her body, but it was like seeing a reflection of a mirror. Beside the ghost of Yuki stood a big wolf with silvery fur and as the ghost spoke, so did the wolf. “I will be waiting for you, my love” the spirit told him and if Shin had looked to his side he would have seen the black wolf once more, its head low in mourning. He didn’t notice the black-garbed human that came seconds later. He sat there, clutching the dead body of his fiancée, rocking back and forth like a child with the tears streaming down his cheek.
He was found in the same state hours later, with the body of the prince lying a few feet away and with him still rocking back and forth. He wouldn’t release the corpse and in the end they had to resort to force to get it from him. His eyes were dead and he was whispering the same name over and over again, “Yuki, Yuki”. For the crime of killing the prince he was sentenced to be tortured for an entire year until he would be killed. He was exposed to all forms of torture and when not tortured they would lock him in a chest. But he was eaten by a hollow only five months after his own imprisonment. But he was already dead before he got killed. His own guilt had eaten him from the inside with only the darkness of his soul to share it with.
He was brought to soul society; all of his wounds received from the torture were healed except the scar left by Yuki. Shin got a new family but in the first three years didn’t utter a single word. But he one night while asleep, he dreamed of Yuki for the first time, the first dream in a year which wasn’t a nightmare. She just stood there and watched him with her beautiful green eyes. When he woke up he felt a peace he hadn’t felt for a long time. He began to do his best to help others, to smile and not let his depression out in the light. But when alone his eyes always seemed to be troubled as his guilt was still eating him from within. The only time it would stop was when she would forgive him. He set it up as his goal to find her. He changed his last name to Tenrei (Heaven’s Law) to remind himself that they were all playing by the rules set up by the heavens. Nobody could escape their fate, but nobody truly knew theirs.
Shin joined the academy as soon as he learned of Shinigamis. His vigilance, intelligence and honesty made him well liked by both his fellow students and his teachers. His only real disadvantage was that he was way too honest for his own good like the time he and his classmates had forgot about the time while playing around instead. When they finally arrived his friends had planned to tell the teacher some lie only for Shin to blurt out the truth. Shin was surprisingly gifted when it came to Kidou and his swordsmanship was also above average. When he finally graduated he was among the best of his class and was allowed to join the Gotei 13.
His strong will to never give up no matter the circumstance was made of good use in the Gotei 13. Shin originally joined the 3rd Division and spent his earlier years as a Shinigami there. Still being a lone wolf, he was let alone by himself when not on duty. Another thing that had changed from what he could remember in the living world was that the iris of his eyes had turned into a golden yellow, but it was never commented on. Although people at first thought he was the typical “rowdy 11th division type” due to his looks they were always impressed at how calm he was. On his free time he likes to visit a large park in the western part of SS, where there is a huge field of grass. He was recently transferred to the 6th division. Here he began to work even harder, inspired by his senpai and Taichou. Eventually. he made his way to attain the vice captain of that very division
